Currently recruiting for an experienced R&D Project Engineer - Downhole Tools on a permanent staff basis for an Oil and Gas company based in Dyce, Aberdeen. As part of the on-going development of the company’s downhole valves, the Research and Development Department are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join their team to coordinate internal and external valve development projects. Working within a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers and Technicians, the primary focus of the role will be on the development and maintenance of the Company’s extensive valve systems, and to develop new and innovative product lines.

The R&D Project Engineer will be responsible for research, planning, organising and executing design development projects, resulting in the definition of new product solutions and improvements to existing valve projects.  This includes providing design support through analysing and diagnosing product related issues, as well as understanding applications and practices and developing valve designs from concept to production.  The R&D Project Engineer will also provide support to engineering, operations and field / offshore disciplines.

 

The R&D Project Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Leading on-going in-house testing of valve technologies.
  • Analysing and reporting on data collected from in-house testing and external field trials.
  • Supervising the design and testing of downhole valve systems and related equipment.
  • Coordinating the in-house testing and qualification of valves to ISO and API standards.
  • Liaising with sub-contract manufactures on innovative manufacturing processes.
  • Working with other team members on the design, development and project management of electronic, software, firmware and electro-mechanical downhole wireless technology.
  • Capturing requirements, writing specifications and working with all the technical disciplines to develop project timelines and deliver and report on these.
  • Keeping abreast of developments and new technologies within the high temperature battery industry.

 

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A relevant Degree qualification, or an equivalent level of experience in a similar role, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar R&D Project Engineer position, within the downhole tools field, is essential.
  • Previous experience of working with downhole valves, or packers, would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in the development of electronic and mechanical downhole tools would be preferred.
  • Applicants will be expected to possess an understanding of workshop operations.
