TMM Recruitment are working with a major, multi-national energy organisation based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire to bring in an experienced Data Governance and Management Lead to join their Digital and Data Team ASAP on a contract basis until November 2022. The company is only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role and remote working will be available, however there is also a requirement to attend the office in person on a regular basis.

  

Overview

Data Governance and management is an emerging discipline within the company which is fundamental to the facilitation and utilisation of data as an asset. The development of robust Data Governance is required to support the organisation’s long term goals. Reporting to the Digital & Data Manager, the Data Governance Lead will be part of the team responsible for the specification, building and maintenance of Data Governance tools and processes.

  

The Data Governance & Management Lead must be able to effectively work with key business users within the company to ensure Data Quality, in addition they will be a subject matter expert (SME) providing best practice guidance across the domain.

  

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Data Governance & Management Lead you are responsible for:

  • Responsible for creating and delivering the Data Governance Roadmap.
  • Responsible for the creating and reporting Data Quality KPIs for the organisation.
  • Responsible for the effective communication and prioritisation of Data Quality initiatives in the affiliate.
  • Responsible for creating a Data Schema for the affiliate.
  • Responsible for training the wider organisation in use of tools required for maintaining data catalogues and adhering to data governance processes.
  • Responsible for data change control.
  • Supporting the work of the Digital and Data Team by contributing to Sprints on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Within this role you would interact with Digital & Data Team, the IS Team, the EIM Team, the Geoinformation Team, the Head of Technical Information, IS Business Analysts and externally with third-party data providers and consultants, the Data Science community and peers in other companies.
  • Engaging and managing a third-party consultant to develop a Data Governance Roadmap which includes:
    • Defining the current data governance landscape within the company – areas of good practice, significant weaknesses.
    • Understanding the Group guidelines around Data Governance.
    • Integrating the Group guidelines into a Data Governance roadmap that will outline steps required to create effective Data governance within the company.
  • Leading the delivery of the data governance roadmap through engagement with Data Owners in the wider business.
  • Understanding and building a data schema for the affiliate (prioritised by business need) to understand what data is where, how it is used, who is responsible for what within the schema and other metadata (definitions, hierarchy, taxonomy).
  • Ensuring Data Management initiatives within the affiliate are coherent with Group Data Management guidelines and initiatives.
  • Connecting with relevant industry bodies to ensure the data governance roadmap aligns and makes best use of cross industry initiatives to standardise and share a common approach to describing and managing data. (e.g OGA, OGUK, OSDU).
  • Managing the deployment of the tools and processes identified as necessary during the Data Governance Roadmap.
  • Developing Data Quality measures for the affiliate and reporting these to relevant stakeholders (preferably with automated reporting tools).
  • Coordinating Data Quality improvement initiatives within the affiliate. Acting as the main point of contact with Group relating to Data Quality initiatives.
  • Regularly communicating with relevant Stakeholders on Data Quality status (ExCom, Digital SteerCo, Audit), successes and initiatives underway.
  • Where necessary, providing ad-hoc support to Digital and Data Team sprints, using Data Engineering and Data Schema knowledge and expertise.
  • Developing and leading on the data management change control process.

  

Skills and Experience

  • An understanding of Data Management concepts and practices, especially the Data Management Association’s Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK) or a strong willing to learn rapidly.
  • Experience writing robust, reusable code to create production-strength data pipelines.
  • Strong SQL knowledge.
  • Proven production experience and best practice knowledge of cloud platforms, features, and capabilities.
  • Knowledge of distributed computing, data and application architectures, basic networking, security and infrastructure.
  • Experience integrating cloud services to work with on premise data sources and clients.
  • A thorough understanding of the Upstream industry and knowledge of Upstream companies’ main strategic drivers.
  • Ideally experience of working within a dynamic Agile based team or willingness to learn Agile methodology.
