The People's Choice
25th November 2013
Viewing the amazing entries in our annual art competition for school children, “My Future Aspirations", is one of the highlights of my year.
The idea of our creative challenge is to encourage pupils in Aberdeen city and shire to create a self-portrait which expresses their career hopes for the future, along with a written narrative to support their piece.
The competition's been running for several years now and is a huge success, proving really popular with the local schools.
This year has been no exception with an even higher level of creativity and imagination in the entries from 20 schools. We even had an entry from Houston - that's a first! Our wonderful judges were thrilled to see more pupils experimenting with different media and have now chosen their top 12 to feature in our annual calendar as well as their winner. However, who says the judges are right?!
We would like you to vote for your winner in the People's Choice category. It's easy to vote, just go to our on line gallery (www.thorpemolloy.com/artgallery2013) or our facebook page (www.facebook.com/thorpemolloyrecruitment).
If you are having difficulty choosing the winner, here's a few tips from my fellow judges. Have a think how well the work meets the brief, illustrating future career aspirations. Does it demonstrate creativity? How have the pupils communicated their visual image through their choice of media? Does the narrative provide an explanation of the art work and this is an important one: does the submission function as a piece of art out with the competition?
Your winner will be announced at a special evening at Aberdeen's fantastic Tivoli Theatre on December 5 when our special guest will be local artist Eric Auld.
So go on and give it a go. The pupils have great fun taking part in our competition which really champions creativity and art in education. Your vote provides another chance for their work to be recognised.
