Currently recruiting for an experienced Control & Instrumentation Engineer on a permanent staff basis for an oil and gas service company based in Dyce, Aberdeen.

         

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Control & Instrumentation Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Developing software and systems from concept through to finished product in line with design request and equipment technical specification.
  • Design activities to support projects and technology development.
  • Performing engineering verification analysis to assess suitability of design.
  • Test activities to validate equipment designs against performance criteria in accordance with procedures.
  • Supporting the Product Development Department in meeting the ongoing requirements of the business.
  • Liaising with other departments in the business to support the development of design solutions through review of new and existing technology.
  • Developing software programs for electronic products, data analysis and test equipment.
  • Managing software development program from concept to delivery.
  • Creating software definition, flow diagrams and interface requirements.
  • Supporting, coordinating and communicating with staff and external parties on the application of software.
  • Developing simulation models of electrical/electronic products and systems.
  • Troubleshooting Programme Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI)/dashboards, network connectivity, and software.
  • Identifying and providing solutions for control system technical issues.
  • Supporting, coordinating and communicating group activities on the specification, adherence, supply, control, and consumption of electrical energy.
  • Implementing, verifying, and documenting design changes to software and PLC.
  • Developing and upgrading HMI/dashboards.
  • Creating technical documents, specifications, designs, drawings, calculations and supporting documents in line with design request requirements.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of product viability.
  • Supporting engineering cost and delivery estimates for proposing development of new technology.
  • Ensuring project progress is sufficiently communicated to Design Engineering Manager and key project stakeholders.
  • Undertaking role of Lead Software Engineer on projects.
  • Checking technical documents associated with design development.
  • Providing support/assistance in the testing of new products.
  • Ensuring business and design development engineering processes and procedures are adhered to.
  • Supporting handover of new technology/equipment to Assets Team.

              

Experience/Qualifications:

Essential:

  • HNC / HND qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Software programming experience.
  • Electrical modelling experience.
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI.
  • Knowledge of software development tools, methodologies and processes.
  • Experience with the design and development of new products/technology.

        

Preferred:

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the North Sea oil and gas industry.
  • Experience with drilling, solids control or drilling fluids.
  • Engineering experience with electrical/mechanical equipment.
  • TwinCAT, SIMATIC AND MELSEC experience.
