Design Engineer - VR/29833
Currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for a Subsea Service company based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.
The Design Engineer will support the delivery of innovative engineering solutions from conception and design – all the way through to project management and delivery.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Providing innovative engineering solutions for the Offshore Energy sector.
- Carrying out conceptual and detailed 3D modelling, detailed engineering drawings and schematics - using proprietary CAD packages.
- Undertaking engineering calculations, ensuring fitness for purpose of designs.
- Effectively designing optimisation, including the selection of components and materials.
- Carrying out engineering analysis, primarily finite element analysis.
- Undertaking, and participating in, in-house and client-based design reviews.
- Reviewing and checking engineering drawings, calculations, analysis models and documentation.
- Compiling of technical documentation including reports, calculations, specifications, parts lists, assembly test and operational procedures, and manufacturing data.
- Interfacing and technical liaison with other company staff across multiple sites, as well as clients and suppliers.
- Project engineering and management of design and build projects.
- Providing project cost estimating.
- Monitoring live budget for projects.
- Liaising with 3rd party design verification bodies.
- Providing offshore engineering support activities from onshore, as well as from location offshore, as required.
- Providing day to day engineering support and advice to Manufacturing, Test and Assembly Departments.
Experience/Qualifications:
- A Degree qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or similar, is essential.
- Chartered Engineer status, or working towards, would be preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role is essential.
- Previous design engineering experience with subsea technology and marine handling equipment would be preferred.
- Previous experience in a design for manufacture environment would be preferred.
- Applicants should have a strong grasp of structural mechanics and materials technology.
- Applicants will be expected to hold a sound understanding of conceptual and detailed design processes for cost effective manufacture.
- Applicants should have a sound understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication.
- Applicants will be expected to have Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience.
- Applicants will be expected to have experience with engineering software, such as SolidWorks, Mathcad and ANSYS Static Structural.
- Applicants should have experience of working with 3rd party certifying bodies as part of the design verification process.
