Get On The shmuTRAIN - Taking Young People To A Positive Destination.

shmu believes unemployment is not an inevitable outcome if people are supported to improve their employability skills, set clear goals and are encouraged to fulfil their potential.

shmu’s shmuTRAIN programme is unique in that it uses community media platforms (radio, TV, & music) to motivate and support participants to develop their core and life skills in order to move on successfully to a positive destination of employment, further education or training. Over the last 10 years, the strand has transformed the lives of hundreds of people across the North East and due to the success of these programmes, and the impact of Covid-19, we are expanding this vital service.

By securing this new post you will be part of the next phase of expansion shmu's shmuTRAIN projects which develop core skills and digital skills; improve literacy and numeracy; raise academic achievement and increase readiness for the world of work. You'll do this by:

  • Delivering a range of group work and 1:1 activities including the employability component of the funded shmuTRAIN programmes.
  • Acting as an Assessor for the SQA accredited qualifications delivered by shmuTRAIN.
  • Recruiting trainees, establishing and maintaining relationships with referral agencies.
  • Maintaining a database of information to ensure accurate and appropriate records.

You need to be a committed, engaging, educator.

Committed:  Be dedicated to people and process, investing in each individual to tailor their learning by being responsive, adaptive and considerate of their learning needs while recognising that evaluation and the delivery of high-quality sessions are also essential for quality assurance.

Engaging: As a passionate advocate for accessible and meaningful learning opportunities, you engage hearts and minds and can evidence knowledge of client engagement methods, and tools available for employability support.

Educator: You can teach, inform and inspire others in different settings, using your ability to communicate with colleagues, children, young people and adult learners in a friendly and non-judgemental manner to achieve results.
