Currently recruiting for an experienced Safety Manager on a 6-month fixed-term contract basis for an aviation company based in Dyce, Aberdeen. The company is ideally looking to have the successful candidate in post by early January 2022. This role will involve regular site visits, however, there could possibly be scope for some remote / home working.

     

The Safety Manager will provide assurance of the effectiveness of ISMS, as well as safety and risk management across the overall organisation.  The post holder will monitor overall compliance with, and the adequacy of, procedures required to ensure safe operational practices and airworthiness of the company’s fleet of helicopters.  The Safety Manager will ensure the company safety case is developed, implemented and maintained to meet all applicable legislation and manage operational risk to an acceptable level.

      

The Safety Manager will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintaining contact with authorities, manufacturers, clients and other operators; monitoring subcontracted activities.
  • Managing and presenting the SQRB.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of QPulse and any other relevant database systems.
  • Continuous development of the Safety Management System, encompassing the requirements of the CAA and EASA.
  • Liaising with the Leadership Team, Managers, external advisors and all other relevant personnel to ensure that a consistent auditable approach is maintained in the development of the ISMS.
  • Monitoring the performance of the ISMS through assessment of the results of internal / external compliance audits.
  • Overseeing company compliance monitoring programmes.
  • Controlling and implementing the ISMS improvement plan and associated objectives and targets.
  • Liaising with the Leadership Team to ensure the development and implementation of an appropriate company training policy with respect to the Integrated Safety Policy.
  • Ensuring that all standards and rules are complied with.
  • Ensuring that follow-up actions, within an agreed time frame, are recorded in the Q-Pulse database, in respect of all non-compliances.
  • In conjunction with the Compliance Monitoring Manager, maintaining records within QPulse of the audit schedule, completed audits, follow up audits, non-conformities and corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensuring the competence framework for Safety and Compliance personnel is effective.
  • Developing an effective Crisis and Emergency and Response Plan (CERP), and in conjunction with departmental leadership, implement an approved drill and exercise plan.
  • In conjunction with the HSE Manager, ensure compliance with the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS), including the monitoring of emissions reporting, EU-ETS banking and hosting the EU-ETS verification audits.
  • Implementing, developing and overseeing safety policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of the ISMS and CERP.
  • Assisting with the development of safety action plans for the Leadership Team and managers to meet their ISMS responsibilities, and providing guidance and advice on compliance, continuous improvement and best practice.
  • Responsible for maintaining and further developing systems to record, communicate and investigate incidents, using QPulse occurrence module database.
  • Development and effective delivery of ISMS training to all internal employees.
  • Facilitating hazard identification, risk analysis and safety management.
  • Assisting in the development and effective implementation of the ISMS Improvement Plan.
  • Providing periodic reports on safety performance.
  • Ensuring maintenance of safety management documentation.
  • Providing advice on safety matters, and ensuring initiation and follow-up of internal occurrence / accident investigations.

            

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar Risk / Safety Manager type role is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, within the aviation sector, would be preferred.
  • Experience of working with all the relevant, and most up-to-date, ISO standards is essential.
