Currently recruiting for an experienced GIS Lead on a contract basis for an oil and gas operator based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. The contract will initially last until November 2021, however, it’s a core position, therefore it should be a long-term opportunity. The company is also only considering PAYE contractors for this particular position. Leading the Geographical Information Services team, the GIS Lead will ensure support and maintenance of key company geographical databases, automated data workflows, projects and services, associated with surface and subsurface spatial data within the offshore energy sector.

   

Reporting to the Geoinformation Leader, the GIS Lead will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

    

Team Leadership:

  • Supervising, coordinating and prioritising daily GIS and graphic operational activities.
  • Ensuring provision of efficient service to all customer groups, including Geoscience, Engineering and Survey and Environmental Teams, and liaising with other support teams locally and globally, where required.
  • Leading GIS projects, software or database development, and inputting to projects within Geoinformation Team, to technically support spatial data and ETL work scopes.
  • Supporting development of data solutions for projects, relating to digital transformation, and acting as coordinator between different stakeholders (business users, data scientists, data SMEs) to ensure Geoscience and GIS data components are efficiently delivered and are maintainable.
  • Promoting the GIS discipline to the user community, encouraging the correct and appropriate use of technologies and data.

    

Technical Delivery:

  • Ensuring the support and maintenance of all automated ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) workflows / scripts are implemented, to ensure efficient manipulation and publication of datasets between datastores.
  • Maintaining databases (reference, interpretation studies), continually updating with incoming data, and monitoring the availability of new data.
  • Ensuring the production of complex cartographic documents using specifications, procedures and standards.
  • Proposing, delivering and implementing appropriate GIS workflows and procedures to improve data management process and data transfer between applications.
  • Organising and providing GIS application support and companionship to end users or internal team.
  • Developing new use cases for deploying ETL technologies with the purpose of increasing business efficiency. Designing new and robust ETL workflows – implementing on local and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Maintaining up-to-date and verified documentation in line with annual programme.

    

Experience / Qualifications:

   

  • A degree qualification in GIS, Geomatics, or another related technical / engineering / software discipline, is essential.
  • Experience of working the oil and gas industry and in the E&P domain – preferably within a geoscience or survey setting – is essential.
  • Previous experience of leading a team and managing operational support services is essential.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of successful data management is essential.
  • A solid foundation in geospatial programming and automation (e.g. Python and Safe FME) is essential.
  • Experience with preparing and publishing maps, as well as data, for consumption in intranet-based GIS applications is essential.
  • Applicants will be expected to possess experience with the ESRI ArcGIS Suite (including ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcSDE database), as well as Safe FME.
