Currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer on a permanent staff basis for an Oil & Gas company based in Aberdeenshire.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide and maintain in-depth technical knowledge of static and rotating mechanical equipment to enable effective maintenance and asset care of installed equipment and components.   He / she will ensure all mechanical maintenance is defined and specified in accordance with legal requirements, industry standards and Company procedures.

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintaining competence in, and ensuring compliance, to UK legislation, Company policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Assuming the responsibilities of the Mechanical Site Accountable Person as delegated by the Engineering Manager.
  • Line management of the mechanical support functions allocated to the role by the Engineering Manager.
  • Technical accountability for static and rotating mechanical plant and components.
  • Focal point for Fitness for Service (FFS) assessments and be conversant with PSSR regulations.
  • Providing first line troubleshooting and problem-solving expertise for mechanical equipment and components. Leading equipment failure investigations and providing recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Technically supervising any major intervention (planned maintenance, defect repairs or modification) on mechanical equipment.
  • Assuming proponent engineer responsibility for class 1 and class 2 projects, as delegated by the Engineering Manager.
  • Working with the Methods Team to develop maintenance procedures.
  • Ensuring that mechanical site critical spares are properly defined, stored and maintained.
  • Being the site representative for contracts, as delegated by the Engineering Manager.
  • Preparing and controlling budgets, as delegated.
  • Ensuring self and reports are conversant with the Major Accident Hazard (MAH) scenarios identified within the COMAH report. Ensuring that training is provided to maintain MAH and COMAH awareness within the mechanical engineering function.
  • Responsible for the competence assessment of reports and for the upkeep of associated records.
  • Auditing and inspecting mechanical maintenance, or repair activities, on safety critical equipment.
  • Development and upkeep of the mechanical aspects of the Operational Integrity Assurance and Verification Scheme (OIAVS) to provide COMAH assurance.
  • Following up and closing out of safety critical equipment verification findings applicable to mechanical aspects.
  • Development and upkeep of the mechanical aspects of the planned maintenance schedule as held on the computerised maintenance management system.
  • Upkeep of maintenance procedures to ensure that they are current and reflective of any plant changes.
  • Being fully aware of the Emergency Response plan and providing Emergency Response duties.
  • Participating and leading behavioural safety initiatives within the mechanical engineering function.
  • Actively auditing standards of work and compliance to procedures on site.

Experience / Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A Degree qualification in a Mechanical Engineering, or similar, discipline.
  • Previous experience in a similar Lead / Senior Mechanical Engineer type role within the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Senior mechanical engineering experience and contributions in regulated, high hazard industries (Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power Exploration, Production / Processing etc).
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance, compliance, improvement and project work in pressure containment (vessels, pipework), storage tanks and rotating equipment.
  • Management of ageing plant.
  • Regulatory compliance and adherence to engineering standards, including: PSSR, PSR, LOLER, PUWER, COMAH and other related legislation.
  • People management experience, including performance, competence, development and welfare.

Preferred:

  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards.
