Currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Support Engineer, with static equipment experience, on a contract basis for an oil and gas operator based in Kingswells, Aberdeen. The contract will likely last for a minimum of 2 years and the company is only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role. Occasional offshore visits will likely be required - therefore, applicants must be willing to work offshore.

      

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Mechanical Support Engineer will provide day to day platform operational and maintenance support – specifically covering mechanical equipment, piping, vessels, HVAC and lifting equipment.  The post holder will assist with the planning and execution of projects, which will benefit the asset through improved operations reliability, as well as improved HSE and cost performance.  The successful candidate will act as the first point of contact for mechanical engineering support for the asset.  The post holder will also provide support on all respective shutdown preparation activities relating to mechanical systems.   

                    

The Mechanical Support Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Supporting delivery of safety, integrity, production and environmental performance of the asset.
  • First line support for mechanical technical issues from offshore.
  • Investigating and solving day to day and medium-term plant problems, in support of the Offshore Team.
  • Responsible for ensuring controlled documents are up to date and any changes are managed.
  • Responsible for monitoring / complying with asset discipline performance standards and completion of Independent Verification Body (IVB) actions where appropriate.
  • Communicating asset risks / non-compliances to the discipline technical authority.
  • Responsible for monitoring / complying with implemented asset discipline documents on the company management system.
  • Responsible for technical input into procedures, maintenance deferrals and Operational Risk Assessments (ORA’s) within discipline.
  • Responsible for technical input of platform (Management of Change) MOCs at agreed stage gates.
  • Ensuring compliance with good technical practice through offshore visits and audits.
  • Responsible for technical approval of material and service requisitions (within discipline) in Maximo.
  • Asset focal point for specified maintenance support contractors and associated performance management duties.
  • Planning vendor support visits and coordinating any follow up activities.
  • Managing onshore overhauls of equipment, attending repair facilities and witnessing activities where appropriate.
  • Participating in incident investigations and assisting Offshore Team in identifying root cause.
  • Assisting offshore with safety critical maintenance deferral process and contributing to risk assessments.
  • Supporting offshore maintenance personnel to continually improve the maintenance strategies, to ensure optimum balance of technical integrity, reliability, cost and life of the field.
  • Monitoring, reviewing and risk assessing work activity backlog – working with Maintenance Team to ensure deferral of work activity follows correct procedure.
  • Supporting HSE inspections as asset discipline point of contact for data requests, clarifications and completion of HSE actions where appropriate.
  • Providing technical input into year shutdown scope definition and execution, and actively participating as a member of the Onshore Shutdown Team.

                               

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A relevant Engineering Degree qualification would be preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer status would be preferred.
  • Current / valid offshore certification would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar office-based Mechanical Support Engineer type role, within the oil and gas industry, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, directly with an oil and gas operator, would be preferred.
  • Applicants will be expected to possess knowledge of bolted joints, WPS / PQR and Fitness for Service Assessments to API 579.
  • Experience with managing vendor services contracts would be preferred.
