Working within a multi-disciplinary team and reporting directly to the Legal Manager – North Sea, you will be responsible for providing proactive legal support across the company’s North Sea organisation. This comprises 3 distinct business areas which mirror the strategy – Upstream, Decommissioning and Infrastructure and New Energy.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafting, negotiating and advising on the application of a wide range of commercial agreements relating to the company’s operated and non-operated assets, including joint operating agreements, construction and tie-in agreements, transportation agreements, proximity agreements and product sales agreements.
- Primary point of contact for all legal matters, including contractual and regulatory disputes, for the assets or matters you are assigned to support.
- Hands on legal support for ad-hoc major activities or projects where assigned.
- Pro-active internal interface and provision of legal advice to other teams, including commercial, HR, HSE and Asset Teams.
- Inputting into asset and commercial strategies to ensure legal rights/obligations are preserved and applied optimally.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Ability to articulate (both orally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner.
- High level of influencing skills.
- Presents self in a professional manner appropriate to the role and company standards.
- Comfortable in working outside firm line management boundaries in a goal oriented working environment.
- Self-motivated team player with ability and desire to take responsibility and drive work to effective resolution.
- Strong analytical capability.
- Able to work independently and make effective decisions/recommendations quickly.
- Able to work collaboratively with team members and key stakeholders.
- Able to proactively identify areas for improvement and change.
- Qualified as a solicitor in either Scotland or England and Wales.
- Experience in upstream strategic drivers and activities including mitigation of risk, understanding of UKCS activity and practice and negotiation/drafting of UKCS oil and gas agreements. Similar experience for midstream and/or decommissioning preferred but not essential.
- Working knowledge of UKCS industry standard agreements and practices.
