Business Negotiation Lead - VR/31821

This role sits within an international energy company operating across the upstream lifecycle, including exploration, development, production and decommissioning. The position focuses on identifying, evaluating and negotiating business opportunities across operated and non-operated assets within the UK portfolio, working closely with senior leadership and multi-disciplinary teams to support strategic decision making and lead complex commercial negotiations. This is a short-term contract running until 31.03.2026.

    

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying, evaluating and progressing new business opportunities or divestments in line with agreed business strategy.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary evaluations, coordinating technical, economic and commercial inputs.
  • Developing negotiation strategies and lead complex commercial and contractual negotiations to completion.
  • Securing internal and partner approvals to pursue and execute business opportunities.
  • Taking responsibility for the final content of fully termed agreements and managing internal approval requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of business strategy through cross asset and cross functional forums.
  • Coordinating and participating in formal meetings to support senior management decision making.
  • Managing joint venture interests in compliance with relevant asset agreements and governance requirements.
  • Representing the business on operating committees and related sub committees.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of asset strategies, work programmes and budgets.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with joint venture partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance value, manage risk and control costs across non operated assets.
  • Overseeing joint venture governance activities including cash calls, audits and compliance obligations.
  • Promoting safety and environmental best practice within joint venture operations.
  • Supervising and mentoring less experienced staff where required.

          

About You:

  • Significant experience within the oil and gas sector.
  • Strong background in leading complex, multi-party commercial and contractual negotiations.
  • Solid understanding of asset management, joint venture governance and UKCS business practices.
  • Good working knowledge of oil and gas contractual frameworks, economic evaluation and fiscal considerations.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to operate and represent the business at a senior internal and external level.
  • Clear, confident communicator with well-developed negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
