Contracts Engineer - VR/31341

This position sits within the international Contracts & Procurement team of a leading upstream operator, supporting contracting activity across both North Sea and African assets. You’ll be involved in the full contract lifecycle across operations, projects, and decommissioning, contributing to initiatives that balance cost efficiency, commercial rigour, and contractual compliance. Based in Aberdeen, the role offers the chance to work across a broad portfolio of activities. The contract runs initially until December 2026.

   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing contract strategies and plans to support ongoing operational requirements.
  • Preparing tender strategies and enquiry packages, including managing prequalification processes.
  • Evaluating tender submissions, lead clarification and negotiation meetings, and prepare award recommendations for approval.
  • Drafting and managing contractual documentation in line with internal procedures.
  • Administering contracts post-award, including variations, claims, amendments, rate negotiations, and performance reviews.
  • Providing day-to-day advice on commercial and contractual matters to internal stakeholders.
  • Resolving contractual and commercial issues in liaison with Legal, Finance, Tax, and Insurance teams.
  • Monitoring supplier activity and market trends to inform procurement decisions.
  • Developing and applying KPIs to drive performance improvement across contractor base.
  • Using commercial expertise to mitigate claims and support the preparation of claims against third parties.

          

About You:

  • Proven contracts engineering experience within the oil and gas industry, covering operational contracts as well as project work in development and decommissioning.
  • Track record of establishing and managing significant contracts from inception to close-out, including international agreements and country-specific terms and conditions.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with experience presenting commercial positions on liabilities, indemnities, and insurances to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Confident conducting meetings with contractor and operator personnel up to management level, and able to work independently while contributing effectively to team objectives.
  • Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to prioritise tasks effectively under pressure; strong skills in data analysis, report writing, and numeracy.
  • Willing to travel internationally if required.
