Corrosion Engineer - VR/30088
Currently recruiting for an experienced Corrosion Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P company based in central Aberdeen. It is an ongoing long-term contract position, and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.
The Corrosion Engineer will be responsible for safeguarding the integrity of oil and gas assets by managing corrosion across their lifecycle. This involves developing and implementing corrosion control strategies, analysing data to identify and address threats and overseeing the corrosion monitoring program. The post holder will provide technical expertise on materials and corrosion, collaborating with other disciplines to deliver effective integrity management programs.
Reporting to the Integrity Lead – Pressure Systems & Fabric Maintenance, the Corrosion Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Ensuring compliance with the corrosion management standard, maintaining up-to-date asset registers, update risk-based inspections, and analysing asset condition data to identify and address integrity threats.
- Leading AICM meetings, managing AIM actions, analysing anomalies, communicating risk escalations, and overseeing the corrosion monitoring program, including third-party work and failure investigations.
- Chairing and leading Asset Integrity Corrosion Management (AICM) meetings, and managing actions resulting from these meetings, and ensuring timely assessments of pressure systems and pipelines.
- Developing and maintaining corporate corrosion control strategies, including inspection and monitoring activities.
- Providing technical expertise on materials and corrosion for relevant assets and set related strategies.
- Maintaining and updating asset group Risk-Based Assessments (RBA) for pressure systems and pipelines.
- Reviewing inspection strategies to ensure they address corrosion concerns and recommend solutions for integrity threats.
- Maintaining asset corrosion control schemes and mitigation policies.
- Ensuring RBI is up to date for each asset, capturing operational, process, production chemistry, inspection, and monitoring data.
- Evaluating asset condition, inspecting data, and processing information to identify and address integrity threats.
- Analysing anomalies, ensuring the anomaly database is current, and managing anomalies for effective corrosion trending.
- Providing technical assessments and interpretations of corrosion data, recommending changes to monitoring programs as needed.
- Overseeing the delivery of annual and periodic corrosion reports for assets.
- Maintaining the corrosion status of systems, identifying trends from surveys, and assigning corrective actions to relevant disciplines.
- Contributing to the development of annual integrity summary reports for asset groups.
- Tracking and ensuring completion of all Asset Integrity Corrosion Management (AICM) actions.
- Interfacing with production chemistry regarding chemical selection, testing, and monitoring for corrosion management.
- Providing equipment protection expertise against corrosion, including coating specifications and cathodic protection.
- Collaborating with other disciplines (pressure systems, operations, external service providers) on integrity management programs.
- Undertaking regular offshore/site visits to verify integrity and adherence to standards.
- Supporting regulatory inspections and corporate audits.
- Performing detailed corrosion and materials studies as required.
- Undertaking or coordinating failure investigations related to material and corrosion.
- Providing corrosion expertise and collaborate with other technical disciplines (engineering, maintenance, operations).
- Proactively contributing to reviews of corrosion management information and KPIs to follow quality plan and lead the identification and implementation of suitable quality controls.
- Arranging and tracking the completion of quality activities such as audits, inspections and NCRs.
- Providing feedback on any quality lessons for future work.
- Engaging with key vendors/suppliers to assess how they are managing quality on UKBU’s behalf.
Experience/Qualifications:
- A Degree qualification in Corrosion Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline is essential.
- Professional membership with a related institution would be preferred.
- Current/valid offshore certification would be preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar Corrosion Engineer type role, directly within the North Sea Oil and Gas industry, is essential.
- Previous experience in managing corrosion for onshore and offshore assets is essential. Field experience would be preferred.
- Experience in chemical management and failure investigations is essential.
- Applicants should possess a strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms, risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Knowledge of materials and welding engineering would be preferred.
