Currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Authority on a contract basis for an E&P company based in central Aberdeen. It is an ongoing long-term contract position, and the company is only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.

    

The Electrical Authority will support electrical engineering activities by providing guidance and oversight of competent persons within the assets.  The post holder will act as the subject matter expert and Technical Authority for resolving electrical related issues that have been elevated to the TA and ensure that the company standards are fit for purpose.

           

Reporting to the Technical Assurance Manager, the Electrical Authority will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Equipment types:
  • Power generation, distribution and control (electrical aspects).
  • Load and voltage management.
  • Temporary and emergency power (electrical aspects).
  • Insulation, earthing and protection systems.
  • Electric heating and lighting.
  • Temporary electrical systems.
  • Associated boards, end consumers and mechanical / cable supports.
  • Satellite, wireless, fibre optic and microwave communication links.
  • Fans & HVAC systems.
  • Ensuring the Performance Standard routines are defined appropriately to effectively demonstrate the performance of the Safety Critical Elements and are scheduled accordingly, being undertaken and recorded in line with defined requirements.
  • Continually monitoring the Performance Standard routines being carried out by either review or audit. Where appropriate supporting the assets and instigating changes to the routine, schedule or maintenance philosophies. 
  • Discussing with the Independent Verifier the appropriateness of verification schemes and where applicable, making changes to the Performance Standards, Verification Scheme, routines or maintenance philosophies for the relevant Safety Critical Elements.
  • Verifying that technical decisions made within asset are in line with company and industry standards.
  • Owner of role relevant Performance Standards, ensuring they are relevant, up to date and being adhered to.
  • Providing technical support and advice to the assets.
  • Ensuring effective and timely close out of Synergi and ICP actions.
  • Providing an assurance function to the asset.
  • Supporting the competence assurance model in area of expertise.
  • Assessing and overseeing deferral process in area of expertise.
  • Representing the company externally.
  • Reviewing, evaluating and sponsoring trials of new technology in support of safety and economical improvements.
  • Final approval of discipline relevant Technical Queries where required (e.g., deviation to standards).
  • Providing discipline technical input to and approval of ORA’s, SCRA’s and WMS deferrals.
  • Identifying equipment that poses a risk to ongoing operations (reliability, maintainability, obsolescence etc.).
  • Conducting periodic offshore “cold eye” observations (e.g., during otherwise planned site visits) and produce timely reports.
  • Participating in technical audits and investigations where required.
  • Providing discipline comment to AFA’s where applicable.
  • Reviewing and approving engineering technical documents and drawings as necessary.
  • Participating in pre-startup audits when required.
  • Technical support to SCE/system owners.
  • Leading regular reviews of performance of SCE’s/systems across the assets.
  • Maintaining a regular oversight of performance standards.
  • Reviewing and approving maintenance strategies developed by the assets.
  • Mentoring and coaching Competent Persons and Design Authorities.

        

Experience/Qualifications

  • A degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer status would be preferred.
  • Current/valid offshore certification would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar Electrical Technical Authority type role, directly within the North Sea oil and gas industry, is essential.
  • Applicants should have a sound understanding of all aspects of Management of Change (MoC).
  • Applicants should possess knowledge of the UK regulatory regime.
