Lead Drilling Engineer - VR/29202
Currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Drilling Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P Company based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. The contract is anticipated to last for 6 months (as a minimum), and the company are looking to take on a candidate who is available at short notice.
The Lead Drilling Engineer will play an important role in optimising well operations and ensuring wells are fit for purpose. The post holder will also develop the D&W strategy for tackling technical challenges.
The company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.
Reporting to the Asset Drilling and Wells Team Leader, the Lead Drilling Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Project management and supervision of all wells construction engineering tasks. Ensuring wells are designed and prepared in accordance with company rules and UK regulations, in a timely manner, liasing with the other project members (completion, testing and fluids etc).
- Managing all key interfaces related to the specific Well Project.
- Detailed review and QC of all engineering work conducted by the Senior Drilling Engineer/ Drilling Engineer to achieve the well design and delivery.
- Supervising the team of Drilling Engineers/Senior Drilling Engineers to deliver specific studies/activities to a high standard.
- Supervising, coaching and mentoring Drilling Engineers/Senior Drilling Engineers in the team.
- Assisting the Asset Drilling and Wells Team Leader in developing asset specific specialties (e.g., deepwater, HPHT, extended reach drilling).
- Supervising preparing wells budget, duration and ensuring accurate follow-up is done on a frequent basis by the drilling engineers.
- Ensuring material stock remains compatible with the drilling schedule and updating/following up equipment preparation for routine/non-routine operations with the assistance of the Drilling Engineer.
- Effective contract management of contracts allocated, ensuring best value for company and proper execution of the contract. Following up of contractor performance, planning and conducting QA/QC audits and SQM.
- Ensuring active performance tracking, managing and deploying digital tools to improve drilling performance.
- Preparing well statement of requirement.
- Organising and participating in HAZID/HAZOPs when required and ensuring recommendations are applied.
- Ensuring optimisation of safe working practices and Carbon Footprint Reduction (CFR) are considered in all subjects.
- Ensuring major risks are identified and mitigated in the development of operational programmes and leading the well risk assessment process as required.
- Ensuring drilling programmes/end of well reports are prepared to the required deadlines, standard and accuracy.
- Ensuring applications (HSE notifications, DECC permits) and returns to external agencies are prepared as required to satisfy the overall drilling programme in a timely manner. Tracking and coordinating approvals and permits.
- Application for derogations as required.
- Proactively identifying and preparing programme amendments/MOCs in case of unscheduled events.
- Ensuring all programmes, updates/MOCs and notifications are in line with the Well Examination Scheme.
Experience/Qualifications:
- A degree qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline is essential.
- Previous experience in a similar Lead Drilling Engineer type role, directly within the North Sea oil and gas industry, is essential.
- Experience with typical drilling engineering software (Wellcat, Wellview etc) is essential.
Experience in Well Completion Design and well architecture calculations is essential.
