Lead Safety and Integrity Engineer - VR/28367
Working with our leading oil and gas operator client, we are recruiting for an ambitious and skilled Lead Safety and Integrity Engineer. This is a long-term, core contract role on a PAYE basis. The role will be based in Westhill, Aberdeen with hybrid working also. This role will also require ad-hoc offshore travel so applicants must be willing to travel offshore. This role is suited to candidates with technical safety/safety engineering experience.
Reporting to the HSE Manager, as the Lead Safety and Integrity Engineer, you will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Maintaining a high awareness of industry and professional best practice through effective networking, professional organisations, journals, etc.
- Providing technical safety/safety engineering expertise and advice to asset field operations, performance & growth, geosciences, wells construction and Maintenance Teams, and geosciences.
- Responsible for providing technical safety/safety engineering support to site based HSE professionals and working with them on common objectives.
- Inputting of health and safety objectives into the annual asset HSE improvement plan.
- Responsible for the input of health and safety audits into the annual asset audit plan through a risk-based assessment looking at areas such as legal compliance and incident trends.
- Developing specification, ToR and SOW for specific asset safety engineering studies.
- Decision-maker on contractor/consultant selection in contracts with technical safety/safety engineering content for the Asset.
- Defining statement of requirements, criteria and scoring evaluation, negotiating on price and reviewing deliverables from specialist consultants/contractors ensuring outputs meeting company standards for quality and technical acceptability.
- Participating in safety engineering related incident investigation and RCAs providing expert knowledge and direction.
- Responsible for combined operations notifications and associated studies.
- Responsible for initiating and managing the safety case thorough reviews.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining the asset safety cases.
- Chairing HAZOP, HAZID and ORA meetings.
- Offshore visits in support of asset specific deliverables.
- Auditing.
- Liaising/communicating with external stakeholder where required.
- Supporting the HSE Central Department Integrity and Verification Engineers.
- Identifying, risk ranking, recording, mitigating, monitoring, and resolving major integrity threats for the asset in the company technical integrity system in order to provide management visibility on their timely resolution.
- Monitoring the integrity KPIs for the asset, raising concerns when negative trends are observed and assisting the asset with the development of improvement plans where applicable.
- Participating in the Technical Integrity Review Team meetings and progressing the resolution of major integrity threats and verification findings.
- Preparing and/or collating the asset specific slides for the Integrity and Major Risk Board Meetings.
- Participating in the preparation of the 6 monthly integrity and major risk reports and DIG review slides for submission to Headquarters HSE and DIG NSR.
- Member of the Emergency Response Team and expected to join the emergency response rota when required.
- Deputy for HSE Manager.
- Responsible for providing work direction and technical guidance, checking work/project progress and setting priorities for the Senior Safety and Integrity Engineer.
- Contributing to budgets and plans for work activities and assisting in cost control.
- Providing technical input on contractor/consultant selection in contracts with a safety engineering element.
- Representing company in industry committees and specialist forums involving legislative authorities and other oil and gas operators.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Relevant and appropriate major accident risk industry experience (oil and gas/chemical/nuclear, etc.).
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, i.e. engineering or scientific subject preferably chemical engineering, process engineering or process safety engineering.
- Preferably professional qualification post first degree in Safety Engineering or Process Safety Engineering.
- Demonstrable technical safety/safety/engineering experience and knowledge covering design, plant operation, project engineering, construction, commissioning and operation both onshore and offshore (particularly in the North Sea).
- Expert capability in the full range of technical risk assessment and management techniques.
- Decision making skills.
- Capable of influencing the impact of emerging legislation and industry trends.
- Representing the company at an industry level and leading/facilitating workgroups.
- Good knowledge of UK onshore and offshore health & safety legislation, sufficient to offer good advice without reference, and be able to offer detailed advice through reference to documentation.
- Thorough knowledge of company and group health & safety standards and procedures.
- Possess current Offshore Survival Certificate and OGUK medical.
