Senior Drilling Engineer - VR/27347
Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Drilling Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P Company based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. It is an ongoing projects support role with the initial contract renewal date being at the end of November 2023. The company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role and hybrid working opportunities will be available.
The Senior Drilling Engineer will be responsible for optimising well operations and ensuring that wells are fit for purpose. The post holder will also develop the asset D&W strategy for tackling technical challenges.
Reporting to the Lead Drilling Engineer, the Senior Drilling Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Designing and preparing wells in accordance with UK regulations and internal company rules.
- Coordinating the well delivery process. Creating supporting documentation in conjunction with the Drilling Engineer.
- Leading the Well Scope of Requirement (WSOR) process from within the Drilling & Wells Team. Input to the WSOR to ensure the well delivery process is managed correctly.
- Mastering ‘HPHT specialties’, such as HP / HT casing design in WellCAT and Managed Pressure Drilling operations.
- Providing live drilling engineering support to operations (casing design, directional, hydraulics, swab and surge, torque and drag, well control calculations etc.).
- Attending rig visits.
- Preparing / reviewing budget and duration estimates and raising related contract release orders and service orders.
- Following rig cost control – advising any budget over-spend and following-up on end of well cost reporting.
- Updating and following-up on rig cost control for service contracts involved in drilling and completion operations.
- Well design and delivery optimisation through applications of safe working practices. Applying new technology and implementing a drilling improvement plan (well performance improvement). Applying an understanding of greenhouse gas emissions and reduction plans. Ensuring lessons learnt are captured and actions closed.
- Supporting the offshore workforce through communication, interaction and problem solving.
- Recommending equipment type and quantity, including long lead items in conjunction with the QA/QC & Procurement Team.
- Mentoring / coaching Rig Site Engineer and Onshore Drilling Engineer.
- Undertaking technical studies during the well planning process and supervising small task forces to resolve engineering / technical issues. Providing ad-hoc support on pre-FID projects (technical, time, cost).
- Managing the technical aspect of multiple contracts in field of speciality, including day-to-day activity, budget control, service quality reviews and tendering of multi-service line contracts.
- Delegating for the Lead Drilling Engineer and Drilling & Completion Superintendent.
- Supervising, coaching and mentoring entry level Engineers.
Experience / Qualifications:
- A relevant engineering degree qualification is essential.
- Previous experience in a similar Senior Drilling Engineer type role, within the North Sea oil and gas industry, is essential.
- Previous experience in a similar role, directly with an E&P company / operator, would be preferred.
- HPHT, MPD and casing design experience would be preferred.
- Previous offshore supervision experience would be preferred.
