Senior Geophysicist - VR/30150

Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Geophysicist on a contract basis for an E&P company based in central Aberdeen. It is an ongoing long-term contract position, and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.

    

The Senior Geophysicist will be responsible for conducting seismic interpretation to contribute to reservoir modelling.  The post holder will assess depth velocity models for accurate reservoir characterisation, utilising attributes to define reservoir properties effectively.  They will manage geophysical studies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify drilling opportunities, and will support the company's process of change.  

        

Additionally, the successful candidate will lead front-end activities for development projects, will serve as a peer reviewer for technical assessments, and will participate in multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated reservoir management.

          

Reporting to the Head of Subsurface, UK, the Senior Geophysicist will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Conducting seismic interpretation (structural and stratigraphic) to contribute to reservoir models for assigned fields and discoveries.
  • Assessing depth velocity models and associated uncertainties to ensure accurate reservoir characterisation.
  • Utilising quantitative and qualitative attributes to define reservoir properties effectively.
  • Managing geophysical studies conducted by both in-house teams and third-party contractors.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary sub-surface team members to identify new drilling and intervention opportunities.
  • Supporting the company's process of change and continuous improvement.
  • Leading and coordinating front-end activities for development projects as needed.
  • Serving as a peer reviewer when required for technical assessments.
  • Interpreting and mapping 3D seismic datasets for producing fields and discoveries throughout development phases.
  • Generating drilling opportunities and evaluating well results to optimise production.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary Project Teams to ensure integrated reservoir management.
  • Providing input for enhanced processing of seismic datasets and quantitative interpretation projects.
  • Conducting data room evaluations for potential farm-in opportunities.

       

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree qualification in Geology or Geophysics is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar Senior Geophysicist type role, directly within the North Sea oil and gas industry is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, directly with a North Sea-based E&P company / operator, would be preferred.
  • Seismic interpretation experience is essential.
  • Applicants should hold up-to-date knowledge of interpretation in Petrel software packages, including seismic plugins in Petrel.
  • Applicants should have a solid understanding of seismic processing and acquisition.
  • Applicants should have a sound knowledge of other interpretation/seismic modelling tools, such as Hampson Russel and/or Geoteric.
