Currently recruiting for an experienced Subsea Operations Manager on a permanent staff basis for an Oil and Gas Operator based in Aberdeen.

The Subsea Operations Manager will be responsible for the management of all subsea inspection, repair and maintenance activities involving diving and ROV services for the company’s UKBU subsea assets. 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the effective delivery and performance of the Onshore Subsea Team. Also, for the provision, management and optimisation of resourcing forecasts for offshore execution. 
  • Ensure skills are appropriate with correct coverage and competency can be clearly demonstrated to ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for operating to the pipeline integrity management standards set and ensuring compliance and delivery. Responsible for the inspection, repair and maintenance for all subsea equipment, including flow-lines, gathering lines, shipping lines, pipelines and risers and subsea equipment (including SSIVs).
  • Responsible for the preparation of annual work plans and budgets for activities associated with subsea (and pipelines) inspection, repair and maintenance across all facilities and delivering plan against budget. Responsible for the definition and then attainment of an appropriate set of metrics to drive continual improvement and optimisation of subsea delivery and performance.
  • Managing subsea minor projects in the pursuit of sustaining or enhancing an existing asset’s production.
  • Accountable for the subsea elements of integrated asset plans.
  • Responsible for the optimisation of subsea IRM strategies.
  • Responsible for the control and maintenance of the cross asset subsea integrity database.
  • Responsible for the control and optimisation of the inventory and spares management for subsea equipment to support delivery plans.
  • Accountable for the Technical Authority for subsea pipelines. This includes the role of pipeline competent person for the UK Business Unit and TA for the UK operated pipeline network, defining and measuring compliance with pipeline performance standard.
  • Provision of subsea and pipelines expertise or discipline peer review capability for any major projects and leading any subsea incident investigations.
  • Providing operations technical input to operated UKBU subsea projects, including decommissioning projects and support the project development process with discipline peer reviews.
  • Management of the interaction with the principal authorities (OGA, BEIS, HSEx and DNV) for subsea matters, including requests for legal consent, reviews and safety directive inspections.
  • Managing any external support organisations for effective and efficient delivery of support services. Ensuring contract management plans are in place and are being followed for all key support contracts. 

Key Deliverables / Activities:

  • Development of subsea pipeline and diving long term strategies and delivery.
  • Managing relevant audits - internal and external - to ensure processes are effective and enabling continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining the key integrity databases:
  • Risk based inspection plan.
  • Anomaly list.
  • Integrity certification.
  • Reactive operational support for subsea issues.

Financial Accountability and Dimensions:

  • Preparing and managing subsea budgets across all relevant assets, accountable to each asset in turn.
  • Managing and prioritising work for Subsea and Pipeline Engineers.
  • Producing regular subsea presentations for asset’s partner committee meetings.

Management Relationships:

  • Reporting to Facilities Engineering Manager.
  • The role leads a team of Subsea Engineers, Subsea Controls Engineer and a Subsea Pipeline Engineer / Technical Authority.
  • Indirectly managing / liaising with external Contractors.

Education / Experience:

  • Applicants will be expected to be Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering / Technical discipline.
  • Chartered Engineering status would be preferred.
  • Experience with operational subsea IRM management, delivery and optimisation is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to possess a sound appreciation of inspection, repair and maintenance activities and techniques.
  • The client is looking to take on an experienced leader with a proven capability of effectively managing a team of highly motivated and skilled Subsea and Pipeline Engineers.
  • Previous and specific operational and subsea management / delivery experience is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar Subsea Operations / Delivery Manager type role, directly with an Oil and Gas Operator, would be highly desirable.
