Application Specialist role supporting change, optimisation, and service ownership across asset focused applications. Acting as a hybrid Business Analyst and Application SME, you’ll translate operational requirements into functional solutions, govern vendor led delivery, and ensure asset applications are stable, compliant, and delivering measurable operational value.

    

Overview job description

This role supports the optimisation and ongoing ownership of a portfolio of applications used across operated assets. Working as a hybrid Business Analyst and Application Subject Matter Expert within a vendor and AMS led delivery model, you’ll shape change initiatives, govern delivery, and ensure asset applications are stable, compliant, and delivering tangible business value.

The role spans both transformation delivery and business as usual service ownership, working closely with operational stakeholders, vendors, and internal technology teams.

                

Main duties and responsibilities

           

Discovery & business analysis

  • Lead structured discovery with operational process owners and subject matter experts.
  • Define scope, objectives, success measures, and target outcomes.
  • Map ASIS and TO BE processes, identifying opportunities for simplification, optimisation, and standardisation.
  • Elicit, document, and manage requirements using user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain full traceability from requirements through testing, release, and benefits realisation.

               

Change delivery & release management

  • Shape and manage backlogs and delivery roadmaps across configuration, enhancement, and process change.
  • Coordinate delivery with AMS providers and application vendors.
  • Own UAT planning and execution, readiness activities, cutover, and hypercare.
  • Support training, communications, and user adoption activities.
  • Track and clearly articulate benefits realised post implementation.

              

Application & service ownership (SME)

  • Act as the functional Subject Matter Expert for a portfolio of asset focused applications.
  • Ensure clean handover of changes into BAU with up to date documentation and knowledge articles.
  • Maintain support models, runbooks, and operational procedures to support stable operations.

                 

Vendor & AMS governance

  • Act as the day to day interface with AMS providers and independent software vendors.
  • Prioritise backlog items and review delivery estimates and plans.
  • Support management of statements of work, SLAs, KPIs, and service improvement plans.
  • Ensure consistent standards across delivery, documentation, and ongoing support.

             

Integrations, data & non functionals

  • Lead functional outcomes for system integrations, including APIs, middleware, and batch/file based interfaces.
  • Define monitoring, error handling, and reconciliation approaches with delivery partners.
  • Champion data quality, reporting enablement, and clear interface documentation.
  • Embed non unctional requirements covering performance, availability, security, and supportability.

          

Controls, risk & compliance

  • Ensure appropriate controls are embedded, including segregation of duties, joiners/movers/leavers, GDPR, and audit controls.
  • Maintain audit ready documentation and evidence.
  • Coordinate with Information Risk, Security, and Architecture teams on risk management and remediation.

              

Role scope

  • Multi application portfolio supporting Hydrocarbon Accounting, HSSE, Control of Work, and maintenance solutions.
  • Complex stakeholder environment spanning operations, AMS providers, and ISVs, with a strong focus on adoption and measurable outcomes.

           

Applicants to this role require

  • 7+ years’ experience in a Business Analyst, Application Specialist, or Application SME role.
  • Proven delivery of application enhancements, upgrades, and integrations within enterprise environments.
  • Practical experience supporting operational or asset focused applications such as Hydrocarbon Accounting, HSSE, Control of Work, or maintenance systems.
  • Experience working within vendor and AMS led delivery models.
  • Solid understanding of system integrations, including APIs, middleware platforms, and batch or file based interfaces.
  • Strong documentation discipline with a clear focus on data quality and audit readiness.
  • Experience operating within ITIL based service models and formal PMO governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and/or PRINCE2 delivery approaches.
  • Confident stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively, and balance operational and technical priorities.
