Application Specialist, Corporate Applications - VR/32307
Application Specialist role focused on optimising and supporting a portfolio of corporate applications. Acting as a hybrid Business Analyst and Application SME, you’ll translate business needs into functional designs, govern vendor led delivery, and ensure applications are stable, compliant, and delivering measurable business value.
This role supports change delivery and service ownership across a portfolio of corporate applications. Operating within a vendor and AMS led model, you’ll act as a hybrid Business Analyst and Application Subject Matter Expert, shaping scope, governing delivery, and ensuring applications are stable, compliant, and delivering tangible business outcomes.
You’ll work across both transformation initiatives and business as usual service ownership, partnering closely with business stakeholders, vendors, and internal technology teams.
Main duties and responsibilities
Discovery & business analysis
- Leading structured discovery with business process owners and subject matter experts.
- Defining scope, objectives, success measures, and target outcomes.
- Mapping AS IS and TO BE processes, identifying simplification and optimisation opportunities.
- Eliciting, documenting, and managing requirements using user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
- Maintaining end to end traceability from requirements through testing and release.
Change delivery & release management
- Shaping and managing backlogs and delivery roadmaps, balancing configuration, enhancements, and process change.
- Coordinating delivery with AMS providers and application vendors.
- Owning UAT planning and execution, readiness activities, cutover, and hypercare.
- Supporting training, communications, and adoption activities.
- Tracking and articulating benefits realisation following implementation.
Application & service ownership (SME)
- Acting as the functional Subject Matter Expert for a portfolio of corporate applications.
- Ensuring clean handover of changes into BAU, supported by up to date documentation and knowledge articles.
- Maintaining support models, runbooks, and operational procedures.
Vendor & AMS governance
- Acting as the day to day interface with AMS providers and ISVs.
- Prioritising backlog items and reviewing estimates and delivery plans.
- Supporting management of statements of work, SLAs, KPIs, and service improvement plans.
- Ensuring consistent standards across delivery, documentation, and support.
Integrations, data & non functionals
- Leading functional outcomes across system integrations including APIs, middleware, and batch/file interfaces.
- Defining monitoring, error handling, and reconciliation approaches with delivery partners.
- Championing data quality, reporting enablement, and interface documentation.
- Embedding non functional requirements covering performance, availability, security, and supportability.
Controls, risk & compliance
- Ensuring appropriate controls are embedded, including segregation of duties, joiners/movers/leavers, GDPR, and audit requirements.
- Maintaining audit ready documentation and evidence.
- Coordinating with Information Risk, Security, and Architecture teams on risk management and remediation.
Role scope
- Multi application portfolio spanning finance, procurement, maintenance, and document/collaboration platforms.
- Complex stakeholder environment with a strong focus on adoption, outcomes, and measurable value.
Applicants to this role require
- 7+ years’ experience in a Business Analyst, Application Specialist, or Application SME role.
- Proven delivery of application enhancements, upgrades, and integrations within enterprise environments.
- Hands on experience supporting applications for corporate functions such as finance, procurement, maintenance, document management, workflow, or commercial systems.
- Experience working with AMS providers and third party vendors in managed delivery models.
- Strong understanding of system integrations, including APIs, middleware platforms, and batch or file based interfaces.
- High documentation standards with a strong focus on data quality and audit readiness.
- Experience working within ITIL based service models and formal PMO governance structures.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and/or PRINCE2 delivery frameworks.
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively, and drive outcomes.
