Currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P company based in central Aberdeen. It is an initial contract position through until the end of the year that will be offered on a PAYE basis.

   

The Electrical Engineer (Projects) will support the design, delivery and installation of electrical systems across a portfolio of offshore projects.  The role ensures electrical systems and engineered and executed to meet project objectives in safety, operability, reliability and cost-efficiency.

            

Working within the Discipline Engineering team, the role interfaces closely with cross-discipline engineers, project delivery teams, EPC contractors, suppliers and asset teams to deliver robust electrical solutions from concept selection through detailed design, execution and into operations.

              

A strong focus is placed on offshore environments and associated infrastructure systems, ensuring safe and efficient project delivery.

              

The Electrical Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

          

Front-end Systems Engineering & Design:

  • Develop electrical system architectures for offshore facilities (platforms, subsea systems, and associated infrastructure).
  • Provide electrical discipline input into concept selection and FEED studies.
  • Define functional requirements and design constraints; contribute to Basis of Design documentation.
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews (HAZID, E-HAZOP, LOPA, design assurance).
  • Ensure alignment with project requirements, industry standards, and operational needs.

            

Project Delivery:

  • Provide electrical engineering support across all project phases: FEED, detailed design, procurement, manufacturing, FAT, SAT, installation and commissioning.
  • Prepare scopes of work and technical specifications for suppliers and engineering contractors.
  • Review and assure contractor deliverables for compliance, quality and technical integrity.
  • Support offshore installation and commissioning activities, including site visits where required.
  • Assist in risk management, troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues during commissioning and execution.
  • Support contract management activities, including technical clarifications and change management.

           

Offshore Systems & Integration:

  • Ensure effective integration of electrical systems with offshore assets and interfaces (process, control, subsea, topsides).
  • Support power system studies and analysis (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, etc.).
  • Ensure safe integration with hazardous area requirements (ATEX / IECEx compliance).
  • Support reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) assessments where required.

             

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A degree qualification in Electrical Engineering (or a similar discipline) is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar projects / design-focused Electrical Engineer type role, directly within the UK Oil & Gas industry, is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in offshore electrical systems, including design, construction, commissioning and/or operations support is essential.
  • Experience of working on offshore oil & gas projects is essential.
  • Applicants will be expected to have technical experience in the following areas:
  • Offshore power generation and distribution systems.
  • Power system studies and analysis.
  • Switchgear, protection systems, and control systems.
  • UPS and battery energy storage systems.
  • Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and motor control systems.
  • Hazardous area equipment (ATEX).
  • Subsea or topsides electrical interfaces.
