Our client, a well-established and highly regarded engineering business based in Aberdeen, is currently seeking an experienced Fabrication Estimator to join their team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware engineering professional with a strong technical background in fabrication, welding, and machining to play a key role in supporting project delivery from initial enquiry through to handover.

     

Overview job description

  • Preparing accurate cost estimates for fabrication, welding, and machining activities.
  • Carrying out detailed material take-offs and calculate material requirements.
  • Estimating labour hours, machining times, and overall project costs.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings (both metric and imperial).
  • Liaising with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for materials and subcontract services.
  • Engaging with clients to clarify technical scope and requirements.
  • Compiling and issuing professional quotations, supporting follow-up discussions where required.
  • Working closely with internal engineering and production teams to ensure smooth project handover.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with clients and suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with company HSEQ policies and ISO 9001:2015 procedures.

          

Applicants to this role require

  • Proven experience in an estimating or technical role within fabrication, welding, or machining environments.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings (metric and imperial).
  • Good knowledge of welding processes, machining methods, materials, and tolerances.
  • Experience calculating material weights, cutting lists, and allowances.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively across all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (ERP system experience advantageous).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

            

Preferred Background

  • Time-served apprenticeship in fabrication, welding, or machining.
  • Engineering qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent).
  • Experience within subsea, oil & gas, or precision engineering sectors.
