Financial Controller - Part Time - VR/32433
A unique opportunity to join a highly regarded local charity and make a meaningful contribution to the organisation. You will work closely with the CEO and be responsible for the day-to-day finance operations. We welcome applications from professionally qualified individuals, as well as those who have gained equivalent experience. A background in the third sector is desirable but not essential. The role would be around 2-3 days per week with flexibility on work pattern.

- You will be responsible for delivering day-to-day finance operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and producing timely and insightful management information to support internal decision-making.
- Working collaboratively, in line with organisational values and supporting strong financial governance.
Main duties and responsibilities
Transaction Processing & Daily Finance Operations
- Process purchase invoices.
- Prepare supplier payment runs.
- Resolve routine invoice queries.
- Perform daily bank processing and prepare reconciliations, highlighting unusual items.
- Maintain accurate financial records and audit trails to ensure governance and traceability.
Month-End & Management Information
- Prepare month-end schedules including prepayments, accruals, debtor/creditor summaries, and income tracking.
- Produce monthly management information in line with agreed timelines, including variance analysis for CEO review.
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and track resolution of discrepancies.
- Provide budget holders with financial reports.
- Ensure robust financial controls and processes are consistently applied.
Budgeting & Forecasting Support
- Support the annual budgeting process.
- Assist with quarterly forecasts, highlighting assumptions, risks, and anomalies for review and approval.
Compliance & Audit
- Support information for payroll, VAT, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Support year-end, including preparation of audit schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Maintain process documentation to ensure consistent and robust workflows.
Applicants to this role require
- Experience in operational finance roles.
- Strong understanding of financial processes, including reconciliations and month-end and audit procedures.
- Knowledge of finance compliance frameworks (ideally within a charity environment).
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to support colleagues with management information.
- Ability to work independently within defined procedures and escalate appropriately.
