Group Commercial Manager - VR/32418

Providing commercial leadership across a portfolio of engineering and project delivery activities, this role combines responsibility for commercial performance, governance, risk management and financial oversight from tender development through to project close-out. You'll work closely with operational, technical and finance teams to support commercial decision-making, cost control and performance improvement across multiple projects and contracts. This is a permanent position based in Aberdeen city centre, with travel to group sites across the UK as required.

     

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the commercial aspects of tendering activities, including pricing strategies, commercial reviews, risk assessments and proposal development.
  • Support negotiations with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to secure commercially and contractually robust outcomes.
  • Ensure effective handover of commercial and contractual obligations from tender award through to project execution.
  • Oversee contract performance, variations, claims and commercial risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead change management activities, ensuring variations are identified, priced, negotiated and approved.
  • Maintain oversight of forecasting, budgeting, revenue, margin, cash flow and cost control across a portfolio of projects.
  • Review and challenge commercial assumptions, forecasts, cost reports and margin projections, ensuring commercial positions remain robust and auditable.
  • Ensure contractual obligations, KPIs, amendments and claims are managed in accordance with contract requirements, governance frameworks and delegated authorities.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and support to commercial, cost and tendering teams, promoting consistency and best practice.
  • Act as an escalation point for significant commercial risks, opportunities, claims, disputes and contractual matters.
  • Review commercial reporting, performance analysis and trends, providing insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Work closely with operational, technical, finance and business development teams to support successful project delivery and continuous improvement.

      

About You:

  • Significant experience in commercial or contract management within a project-based environment.
  • Experience supporting operational delivery within engineering, technical or energy-sector organisations.
  • Proven ability to oversee commercial performance across multiple projects or contracts.
  • Strong commercial, contractual and financial acumen.
  • Experience working with contract forms such as LOGIC, NEC, IChemE and FIDIC.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to coach, influence and support multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capability.
  • Degree qualified in Finance, Quantity Surveying, Law, Business or a related discipline.
  • A professional qualification such as RICS, ACCA or CIMA would be advantageous.
