Instrumentation & Control Engineer - VR/32455
Currently seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Control Engineer on a contract basis for a leading company within the oil & gas industry. It is a contract position through until the end of December 2026 that will be offered on a PAYE basis.
Reporting to the ECIT Lead, the Instrumentation & Control Engineer will be responsible and accountable towards Project Development & Execution (PDE) for design solutions and all engineering activities concerning instrumentation & control and metering. The I&C Engineer will take the lead in defining and overlooking the execution of SAS systems modifications (PCS, PSD, and F&G), as well as verification and modification of field instrumentation and metering systems.
The I&C Engineer shall ensure that all project contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders prepared in the relevant areas / disciplines for EPC execution of the defined work reflect the required regulatory and standards compliance.
The I&C Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Working with operations, construction, and commissioning team to ensure clear guidance and clarifications are provided with regards to scope of work and specifically for life extension activities for I&C and Metering discipline which will cover areas such as SAS and field instrumentation.
- Working with Regulatory Compliance & Verification Lead and contractors to ensure that required compliance and verification activities in areas of I&C and metering are defined and executed as required.
- Reviewing and commenting on documents such as instrument datasheets, C&E diagrams, instrument block diagrams, specifications, work packages prepared by Contractor.
- Commenting on the I&C and metering design including arrangement on operability, functionality, accessibility, and maintainability.
- Responsible for IDC comments verification and approval within I&C and metering engineering and respond to relevant TQ’s or non-conformances.
- Preparing I&C technical philosophies, specifications, documents, and drawings as required.
- Participating in work pack review sessions and ensure that all work packs prepared by contractor are complete in terms of scope definition in areas of I&C and metering.
- Reviewing comments from Certifying Authority on design of the I&C and metering systems and assist in resolving issues.
- Participating in design reviews, HAZID’s, HAZOP’s and any other related safety studies.
- Monitoring and reviewing Contractor’s I&C and metering overhaul, demolition, construction, installation and hookup activities and report to the EICT Lead on any failure or gap in project, regulatory and contract requirements.
- Monitoring, reviewing and supporting mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities in areas of I&C and metering along with EICT Lead.
- Reporting to the EICT Lead any delays in progress under area of responsibility.
- Reporting to the EICT Lead any failure of design or gap between the delivered I&C solution and the contract requirement, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Participating in meetings and audits / inspections as required.
- Coordinating Lessons Learned input to PDE Project Management Team.
- Closing assigned Technical Query (TQ) and other action tracker items in PIMS or formal MOM.
- Representing I&C and metering at yard and take lead in resolving any actions / queries that have been raised.
Experience / Qualifications:
- A degree qualification in a relevant engineering discipline would be preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar Instrumentation & Control Engineer type role, directly within the UK Oil & Gas industry, is essential.
- Recent experience of working on modification and/or FPSO redeployment projects would be highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of ABB control systems would be preferred.
