Currently seeking an experienced Lead Design & Analysis Engineer on a permanent staff basis for an Oil & Gas service company based in Aberdeen.

    

The Lead Engineer will be responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight of engineering analysis and design activities.  The post holder will ensure that engineering analysis, design activities and documentation are executed to the highest technical standards, ensuring designs remain cost efficient and are designed for manufacturability, all while supporting the development of engineering personnel and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

            

You should have a high level of expertise in engineering activities, design capability, hand calculations, understanding engineering drawings, technical report writing, application of industry standards, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and fatigue calculations, combined with strong leadership and mentoring capability.  A strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, testing & qualification procedures and cost awareness is also desirable.

           

You will lead a team of senior engineers, engineers and draughtspersons.  Reporting into the Operations Manager, the Lead Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

         

Technical Leadership:

  • Leading and overseeing the engineering function.
  • Providing technical guidance, support, and supervision to engineers and designers performing design, engineering analysis, reporting and testing.
  • Carrying out and review engineering design, drawing and analysis activities.
  • Participating in design reviews, contract reviews, and technical decision-making processes.
  • Ensuring engineering outputs meet required technical standards and project specifications.
  • Ensuring all work is performed on schedule and within agreed cost budgets.

              

Engineering Analysis and Design:

  • Performing and verify all engineering and design tasks, including drawings, calculations, analysis, and reporting.
  • Preparing, checking, and approving engineering documentation including technical reports, engineering calculations and drawings & design documents.
  • Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and technical integrity of analysis methodologies.
  • Progressing reporting and budget management.

          

Project and Customer Support:

  • Providing engineering support to project teams and project engineers as required.
  • Participating in customer and sales meetings when required to provide technical input.
  • Supporting product development and project execution activities as required.

         

Manufacturing and Production Interface:

  • Liaising with production teams during the design phase to ensure design for manufacture.
  • Ensuring manufacturing methods align with project specifications and design intent.
  • Ensuring cost efficient designs are presented to manufacturing team.

        

Team Development:

  • Mentor, motivate, and develop the engineering team.
  • Support professional development of engineers and draughtspersons.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

          

Process Improvement:

  • Lead and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and analysis methods.
  • Improve efficiency, accuracy, and execution of engineering deliverables.

          

Engineering / Qualifications:

  • A degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or a similar discipline) is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar manufacturing design & analysis-focused Lead Engineer type role, directly within the North Sea Oil & Gas industry, is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in engineering design, analysis and product manufacturing & test is essential.
  • Extensive experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and fatigue analysis is essential.
  • Significant experience in a technical leadership or senior engineering role is essential.
