An exciting opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer to take ownership of a business-critical network infrastructure while also providing backup systems administration support. This role combines hands-on networking, security, troubleshooting, and project delivery responsibilities, offering the chance to influence IT strategy, drive continuous improvement, and support a growing technology environment.

    

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of enterprise network infrastructure across multiple sites. This role will also provide backup support for systems administration activities, ensuring the continued availability, security, and performance of critical IT services.

         

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining secure and resilient network operations, proactively monitoring performance, resolving incidents, supporting infrastructure projects, and driving continual improvement initiatives.

       

Main duties and responsibilities

        

Network Engineering

  • Designing and implementing secure, scalable network solutions across LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless environments.
  • Configuring, maintaining, and optimising routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Monitoring network performance, availability, bandwidth, and latency using industry-standard monitoring tools.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving network-related issues across multiple locations and environments.
  • Implementing and maintaining network security controls including firewalls, VLAN segmentation, intrusion detection, and patch management.
  • Maintaining accurate technical documentation, network diagrams, IP inventories, and configuration records.
  • Acting as the primary escalation point for complex network incidents.

       

Systems Administration Support

  • Providing backup support for Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Assisting with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and user account administration.
  • Supporting virtualisation platforms including VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Monitoring backup processes and contributing to disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Assisting with operating system and application patching activities.

         

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Working closely with IT colleagues and third-party vendors to maintain and improve infrastructure performance, security, and resilience.
  • Contributing networking expertise to infrastructure projects, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Identifying opportunities for automation and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Providing Level 3 technical support and assisting with escalations when required.
  • Making recommendations for improvements to networks, systems, and operational processes.
  • Participating in training and development activities to maintain technical knowledge.
  • Ensuring compliance with company health, safety, and security requirements.
