Status: Permanent
Location: Kintore, Aberdeenshire, AB51
Rate: Available Upon Request

An opportunity for an experienced Software & Electronics Engineer to develop and integrate control systems for ROVs and subsea technology. Combining C/C++, Linux, electronics and hands-on hardware integration, you’ll take engineering solutions from initial requirements through development and testing while supporting both new and established subsea products.

Our client is seeking a Senior Software & Electronics Engineer to develop, integrate and maintain software and electrical systems across a varied portfolio of subsea equipment.

This is a genuinely multidisciplinary engineering role, combining software development with electronics, hardware interfaces and practical fault finding. You’ll work closely with engineers and technicians to develop control systems, integrate sensors and hardware, test and troubleshoot equipment, and support both new and existing technologies used within demanding subsea environments.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and maintain software for ROVs and subsea tooling, including control loops, data acquisition, communications and visualisation.
  • Design and develop electrical and electronic systems encompassing surface controls, displays, subsea telemetry and associated hardware interfaces.
  • Develop software for Linux-based embedded and desktop systems, using appropriate programming languages.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, valve packs and navigation hardware into ROV control systems.
  • Test, validate and troubleshoot integrated systems, carrying out root-cause analysis across software, electronics and communications.
  • Take engineering solutions from initial requirements through development, testing and refinement, while maintaining appropriate version control and technical documentation.

Applicants to this role require:

  • Demonstrable experience within a similar multidisciplinary engineering role.
  • Strong C/C++ skills and experience developing software for Linux-based systems.
  • Experience developing and maintaining software control systems alongside the integration of electronic hardware.
  • Practical understanding of electronic circuit design, hardware interfaces and communications.
  • Experience developing user interfaces for control or monitoring applications.
  • Strong practical fault-finding skills across software, electronics and communications, with the ability to independently take ownership of technical solutions.

A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline would be beneficial, although equivalent relevant industry experience is accepted. Experience involving ROVs, subsea systems or robotics would also be advantageous. A full UK manual driving licence is required.
