Stock Accountant- VR/32546
This is a key role responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, delivering insightful reporting, and ensuring robust financial controls across stock-related activities. Working closely with operational and Finance Teams, the successful candidate will investigate variances, drive process improvements, and support effective inventory management through analysis, reconciliation, and reporting. The position also includes supervisory responsibility, providing, guidance and support to a small team while promoting a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring stock balances are correctly reflected within business systems.
- Completing regular reconciliations of inventory accounts, analysing movements, trends, and variances against budgets and forecasts.
- Reviewing stock holdings and purchasing activity, identifying unusual trends and reporting findings to management.
- Investigating inventory discrepancies in collaboration with operational teams and ensuring stock management processes are being followed appropriately.
- Monitoring inventory-related business cases and highlight any deviations from agreed plans.
- Reviewing excess or obsolete stock and support recommendations for inventory provisions and adjustments.
- Coordinating stock count activities, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and reported in a timely manner.
- Providing information and support for internal and external audit requirements relating to inventory processes and balances.
- Overseeing inventory-related financial procedures, driving improvements to controls, accuracy, and reporting standards.
- Supervising and supporting team members, including workload planning, performance management, training, recruitment support, and day-to-day leadership.
About You
- Previous experience in stock control, inventory management, or a similar finance-related environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail when working with financial and operational data.
- Experience leading, coaching, or supporting colleagues would be advantageous but is not essential.
