Technical Safety Specialist - VR/32141

Seeking an experienced Technical Safety Specialist on an initial yearlong contract with an Oil & Gas Operator based in central Aberdeen. This role will provide independent technical safety advisory and assurance services, ensuring major accident hazard risks are effectively identified, assessed, and managed throughout the project lifecycle. The position is open to PAYE & Ltd company contractors and hybrid working is available.

    

Key Responsibilities

             

Technical Safety Leadership

  • Provide specialist technical safety input to project engineering and decision-making.
  • Support design development and ensure inherently safer design principles are applied.
  • Contribute to the management of major accident hazards and barrier integrity.

             

Risk Assessment & Hazard Management

  • Plan, facilitate, and support risk assessments including HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID, Bow-Tie, and SIMOPS.
  • Ensure actions are tracked to closure and embedded within project design.

           

Design & Engineering Assurance

  • Review engineering deliverables for technical safety compliance.
  • Ensure safety critical elements and performance standards are defined and implemented.
  • Provide assurance and challenge to contractors and engineering vendors.
  • Support verification and independent technical reviews.

            

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Support Safety Case updates and regulatory submissions.
  • Contribute to environmental submissions where required.
  • Demonstrate ALARP principles.
  • Ensure alignment with UKCS legislation and offshore safety requirements.
  • Interface with internal HSEQ and regulatory stakeholders.

            

Project Delivery Support

  • Support stage-gate readiness within project frameworks.
  • Provide input to risk registers, MOC processes, and interface management.
  • Contribute to commissioning, start-up, and handover activities.
  • Participate in offshore visits where required.

           

Contractor & Interface Management

  • Provide technical safety oversight of EPIC contractors and vendors.
  • Ensure alignment of contractor deliverables with project requirements.
  • Support coordination across platforms, subsea, wells, operations, and wider project teams.

             

Key Deliverables

  • Technical safety input into FEED and detailed design.
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment outputs.
  • Technical safety reviews and action tracking.
  • Safety Case and regulatory support documentation.
  • ALARP demonstrations and major hazard controls.
  • Technical safety assurance reports and stage-gate inputs.
  • Commissioning and handover safety support.

                

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering or relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive offshore oil & gas experience with a strong technical safety focus.
  • Proven experience across full project lifecycle (FEED to execution and handover).
  • Strong knowledge of UKCS regulatory framework and Safety Case regime.
  • Experience facilitating structured risk assessments (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Experience working with EPIC contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to operate independently within a project environment.
  • Offshore certification desirable.
